The Formula One Strategy Group has agreed on outlawing T-Wings and shark fins from the 2018 Formula 1 season, after safety and its aesthetics became a key talking point since the new cars were launched.
The T-Wing has been a big controversy this year; teams found loopholes in the technical regulations to introduce them for 2017, however it has proven to be unsafe, and many have called for a ban on safety grounds. Both in the Bahrain and Chinese Grands Prix, the T-Wing fell off the Mercedes F1 car.
“Changes in the regulation boxes around the engine cover have been made so that designs incorporating the ‘T-wing’ and ‘shark fin’ will be strictly limited,” The statement from the Strategy Group meeting said.
