Robert Kubica will “almost certainly” get an outing during the 2017 Formula 1 post-season test in Abu Dhabi with the Williams Formula 1 team.
Kubica, who is hot on Williams’ list to replace the retiring Felipe Massa, will get another outing in the Williams, after testing their 2014 car in Silverstone and Hungary.
The Pole, who has successfully recovered following his brutal rally crash, was in contention for the Renault 2018 seat, however he was ruled out when the outfit signed Carlos Sainz in the middle of the McLaren/Toro Rosso power unit fracas for 2018.
The former F1 race winner tested Renault’s 2017 Formula 1 car in Hungary this summer when the French outfit were evaluating him for a 2018 seat, and is very likely to get another crack at current era Formula 1 cars after the checkered flag falls on Formula 1 in Abu Dhabi.
“Almost certainly we will give him [Kubica] one of the tyre test days after Abu Dhabi,”said Lowe, speaking to Sky Germany.
“This is a subject that’s getting a lot of attention, I notice, but it’s something we’re working on internally so we won’t tell anyone what we’re doing at this stage.”
After Felipe Massa’s announcement to retire from Formula 1 was made clear in public, the team has complied a shortlist. Recently axed from Red Bull’s driver program, Daniil Kvyat as well as Sauber’s Pascal Wehrlein have been added to that particular list, along with Sky Sports F1 pundit Paul di Resta.
The team are unlikely to make a final announcement before the end of the 2017 Formula 1 season, although it could be confirmed that Felipe Massa is not in contention to stay.
