Vettel: More to come from Ferrari

Canadian GP: Sebastian Vettel believes there is more to come from Scuderia Ferrari in Canada after he had a strong Friday Afternoon – after he was Lewis Hamilton’s closest rival.

The Ferrari driver ended the day in an excellent second place, and just two tenths away from pacesetter, Lewis Hamilton. Following the threat of Red Bull leapfrogging Ferrari, Vettel was nine tenths clear of the fastest Red Bull driver.

After a poor form during 2016 thus far for Ferrari, they introduced an engine upgrade for the Canadian Grand Prix; and from the evidence seen from the two Friday Practice sessions, it looks to be paying off. Sebastian Vettel was the fastest man around the speed traps in the Ferrari, and in addition it must be noted that Ferrari have made additional configurations to their geometry, which is believed to give the team better traction – an element that was costing them during the last few events. The increased traction could also explain how the team are rocketing to the top in terms of straight-line speed.

Sebastian Vettel however is keeping his expectations high, and admits he won’t be happy if he can just carry his strong Practice form into Qualifying, and hopes to be ahead of both Mercedes drivers.

“Well ideally I hope not to split them and be just ahead of them!” Vettel said

“I think they will be quick, not a surprise as it’s a circuit that suits them and they’ve been very competitive these last couple of years.

“In the end we need to do our best and then we see where that will take us.

“But the closer we can be already from Friday, the better.

“I think the car is always very alive here, with the kerbs it is quite a rough track.

“There are still some things we can improve and we need to work on. Overall the car seems to work, there’s nothing wrong and the bits we brought seem to give us what we expected, so that’s good news for today.

“For sure we try to focus on the remainder of the weekend, quali and race. Quali trim I think we were pretty happy with the car. But not entirely happy with the [FP2] lap, there is a little bit we can improve with the car which should help us on Saturday.

“It’s true that the last weekends maybe wasn’t great for us on Saturday but equally there is nothing wrong wrong so we don’t have to be worried for tomorrow.”
